Lionel Perrotte, known as LIONEL was born on October 4, 1949 in Paris. This internationally renowned artist has been painting since the age of fourteen. His work is considerable. It has more than 3000 paintings and more than 300 engravings. Art critics classify him as a lyrical abstract. Today, he lives and works in Anjou, at Domaine des Hayes in Brion, Maine-et-Loire. For 30 years, his work has been presented in the biggest Contemporary Art Shows in Germany, Austria, Belgium, China, Korea, Spain, the United States, France, Japan, Lebanon, Moldova, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey ... More than 100 personal exhibitions attest to its success worldwide and 3 retrospectives were devoted to him in Angers in 1996, to Zürich in 1999 and Levallois in 2008.
His style, recognizable by the perfection of his technique, reveals a powerful imagination. Lionel likes to open windows on different spaces-temps, making the glance of the microcosm look at the macrocosm. The line is precise, the luminous color, the significant form, the impressive relief, as if to answer to an absolute necessity, that of the truth of the work. In fact, Lionel is interested in the inside of things and beings, in the pulsation of worlds. He seeks to paint the invisible to reveal through the heart, and thus connect man to the sacred. He tackles many themes such as the Tower of Babel, the lacerations, the silence, the fertilization, the shroud of Turin, the matter, the memory, the silhouettes, the nocturnes, the fusion, the fluids, the sanctuaries ... He also excelled in conceptual art and portraiture with striking realism. In 1986, Lionel set up his studio in Belleville, Paris. He made his first carborundum engravings, in the Pasnic studio in Paris. There he meets many artists including Max Papart who encourages him and Kijno who sponsors him.
Jacques Boulan becomes his merchant. Lionel realizes for him many editions of engravings. It is presented all over the world, both on international fairs and in galleries. In 1992, the crisis of the art market and his tumultuous friendship with Jacques Boulan, led them to put an end to their collaboration. Lionel signs a worldwide exclusive contract with "Art Selection" in Zürich.
In 1994, "Art Selection" published a book, now out of print, on the work of Lionel and Cimaise devotes an important article. The following year, Lionel moved with his family in Anjou. He receives many artists and enjoys these meetings and exchanges that follow.
In 1996, the city of Angers organized the first retrospective of Lionel. He then met Laurier Dubé who commissioned him many editions of engravings, helping to extend his notoriety.
In 1998, Lionel was exhibited in Pittsburgh, USA, at the James Gallery where he became a permanent artist. At the same time, he participates for the first time in Istanbul's Art Fair, where he will return several years in a row. In 1999, "Art Selection" organized its second retrospective in Zurich. Lionel then meets Patrick Gigou, manager of the "Forum des Arts", which becomes his main publisher. The following year, Lionel met Helmut Schwarzkopf at MAC 2000. He has been exhibiting permanently in his gallery in Heidelberg, Germany, and is dedicating a personal exhibition in 2001.
The German magazine Profil-Art is interested in Lionel and publishes an article about him in 2002. That year, Lionel realizes the poster of The legend of the 2 centuries, show of Catherine Salviat (member of the Comédie Française) and of Paul Barge.
Lionel starts a project that is close to his heart: the creation of an altarpiece, the same size as Grünewald, with the same themes and the same number of panels.
A major exhibition is dedicated to him in Istanbul, in 2003, at the Galerie Alkent Actuel, 70 works by Lionel are presented to the public. The following year, in 2004, Lionel was exposed in Congo at Pointe-Noire, then in Brazzaville. Both exhibitions are funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs associated with Europe. On this occasion, Lionel conducts a Master-class in Pointe-Noire for Congolese artists. That same year, he created to decorate the lobby of Lucent Technologies group "Les Danaïdes", a series of 100 paintings.
In 2005, he participated in several major exhibitions, notably in the United States and in China, where Lionel revisited Shanghai, which he had discovered in 1977. In 2008, a new retrospective was devoted to him in Levallois. In 2010, he finished a large polyptych (1.95 x 3.90 m) of 9 panels on the life of Christ, alongside his new pictorial subject dedicated to fusion. From 2011 to 2013, he made many works of order.
In 2015, he returned to engraving. He realized 2 engravings for the Association States of the Art in collaboration with the famous workshop Pasnic. At the same time, he is working on two themes at the same time, the "Fluids" that he started nine years ago and the "Sanctuaries". Lionel considers the first ones as a path to Unity insofar as they come from both Nature and Grace, evoking, of course, the element of water, but above all the spiritual energies even occult. As for the seconds, they symbolize his meeting with the Sacred. Lionel dreams of turning these "holy places" into theater or opera curtains.
Currently, he approaches a new series, the "Horizons" where he makes us literally travel in space, demonstrating the fascination exerted on him Cosmos.
